HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior inaugurated the Digital Economy Conference (Seamless Middle East) in its second session, held at the World Trade Center in Dubai from 15-17 April 2018.
The conference was inaugurated by HH receiving the Honorary Presidency of the Arab Federation for the Digital Economy from HE Ambassador Mohamed Mohamed Al-Rabea, Secretary General of the Council of Arab economic Unity in recognition of the role of the UAE in supporting joint Arab action especially in the economic and technological fields.
His Highness toured the exhibition held in conjunction of the conference where he was briefed on of the latest technologies in the fields of Fintech, eCommerce, retail and online payments.
The Council of Arab Economic Unity announced its efforts in preparing a common Arab vision for Digital Economy. The envisioned strategy will be prepared to be presented to the Arab Leaders at the Arab Summit next year.
The Council is keen on holding the conference in the UAE in recognition of its pivotal role and support for joint Arab action, and its leadership in the economies and advanced technological applications. The Council supports Seamless ME as a strategic partner.
“This conference is being held in light of the global transformation in the application of digital economy. The transformation that its components have emerged in the global economy arena during the last few years under the grand title of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. This industrial revolution is expected to radically contribute to changing the nature of human life, to better manage natural resources and reach a set of global and societal targets to achieve comfort, security and human development”, said Ambassador Al-Rabea.
Dr. Ali Mohamed Al-Khouri, Advisor to the Council of Arab Economic Unity and Chairman of the Arab Federation for Digital Economy, said that: “The Council of Arab Economic Unity and its institutions working in the fields of advanced technology and the digital economy seek to motivate joint Arab cooperation and unite efforts towards a set of main objectives that can contribute positive impact on Arab societies and improve the quality of life in the Arab World”.
“Our objectives are focused on a range of thrusts, including supporting Arab government plans for digital inclusion and supporting the development of knowledge-based, legislative and technological infrastructure, and supporting public and private business ecosystems for digital transformation”, Al-Khouri concluded.
